Sail Into Paradise: Caribbean & Bahamas Cruises With The Travel Rooster

Set Sail for Sun-Drenched Islands & Velvet Caribbean Waters

If you are ready to swap the glare of your laptop for the shimmer of turquoise seas, the Caribbean and Bahamas are calling. Virgin Voyages Caribbean cruises take the island dream and turn it into something entirely more indulgent, with adults only ships that lean into the good life. This is not the Caribbean of overstuffed schedules and cookie cutter tours. This is champagne at sail away, private beach parties on Bimini, and lazy afternoons where the only decision is pool or ocean. I’m an ocean person most of the time, but my wife likes the pool, so it’s a tossup.

The itineraries are designed to make every day a little different. One voyage might have you exploring the reefs of Roatán (you can snorkel off the west bay and it’s great) before dancing barefoot at a sunset dockside bar in Costa Maya. Another could start with wandering Old San Juan’s cobblestone streets (which I really enjoy even though the last time I did it with a broken foot. Long story), slip into a long lunch of mofongo and rum cocktails (again, I enjoy), and end with a night swim back at the Beach Club at Bimini (enjoy). There are sailings that reach the Eastern Caribbean with stops in Puerto Plata, St. Croix, and Antigua, and others that dive into the Western Caribbean’s charms, mixing Belize, Mexico, and Jamaica into the lineup.

From Miami, you can hop on a quick four or five night getaway or take your time with a longer seven or eight night island crawl. Departing from San Juan adds another layer to the adventure. You are already in the Caribbean, so you spend more time in port and less time at sea. This means mornings waking up in St. Lucia or Barbados, afternoons chasing waterfalls in Dominica, and evenings soaking up the pastel glow of Curaçao. This is really why I love cruising. You get to experience different ports and fun things to do without the stress! If you are sailing from San Juan, I suggest staying an extra day on either side of the cruise and get a little more for you plane flight.

The ports are as varied as the travelers who visit them. St. Kitts offers rainforest hikes and catamaran sails. Barbados tempts with golden beaches and Bajan street food. St. Lucia shows off her Pitons and volcanic springs. Aruba’s pastel streets and hidden coves invite lazy wandering, while Antigua dares you to see how many of her 365 beaches you can touch before the ship sails.

Life onboard between ports is part of the draw. Virgin Voyages Beach Club at Bimini is a signature stop that feels like a members-only excursion, while the ship itself keeps the vibe high with top-tier dining that is all included, live shows that feel more like edgy theater than cruise entertainment, and a spa scene that knows how to deliver both zen and a little glamour. You can also get your yoga or workouts in, too. That’s your call. Late night departures and occasional overnights mean the fun does not stop when the sun goes down. You can linger over dinner ashore, catch live music in a tucked away bar, or simply sit on deck watching the island lights fade into the horizon. It’s a very creative concept.

This is the Caribbean dressed up for adults who want their vacations to have personality. It is relaxed but never dull, luxurious but never stiff, and just unpredictable enough to make you smile. Whether you are looking for a quick escape or a full week of sun-soaked bliss, there is a Caribbean and Bahamas voyage ready to reset your soul and load your phone with photos you will want to show off. I don’t suggest showing all of the 936 photos you took to your friends, but a few are fine!

Go ahead. Caribbean & Bahamas Virgin Voyages Cruises FAQ

What is included in a Virgin Voyages Caribbean cruise fare?
Your fare includes all dining at more than 20 eateries, tips, Wi-Fi, group workout classes, sodas, and all onboard entertainment. Shore excursions and premium beverages are optional add-ons. I suggest getting the bar tab before you sale and you will get bonus drinks for the price.

Do all Caribbean itineraries stop at Bimini?
Most Miami-based Caribbean voyages include a full day at The Beach Club at Bimini, Virgin’s private island experience in the Bahamas. Some San Juan sailings may not stop there, depending on the route.

What is the best time of year to cruise the Caribbean?
December through April is peak season with sunny weather and low rainfall, though Virgin Voyages sails year-round. Summer sailings offer great value and fewer crowds.

How long are Caribbean cruises with Virgin Voyages?
Sailings typically range from 4 to 8 nights, with shorter trips ideal for quick escapes and longer voyages perfect for island-hopping adventures.

Are Caribbean cruises with Virgin Voyages adults only?
Yes. All Virgin Voyages cruises are strictly 18+, which means you can expect a more relaxed atmosphere with curated entertainment for grown-ups. Like the Lick Me Till Ice Cream shop, serving freshly made, hand-scooped ice cream (or, more accurately, gelato) with a variety of classic and daily rotating flavors, as well as different flavored cones. Yes, it’s included in your fare!
